The National Lottery Funded 2012 hot air balloon was built in the UK in 2010 and has toured the UK with medal winning athletes.
Local competitions gave the public chance to win a flight with Olympic and Paralympic games medal hopefuls and medal winners. Some of the athletes even brought their medals along from the Beijing games.
The balloon tour was highlighting the £2.2bn that the National Lottery is contributing to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.
The balloon was launched on July 22nd 2010 at Olympic Park, Stratford, London with a huge host of TV and press media and guests including Tasha Danvers. The 2012 tour then continued through Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield and Cardiff.
Some of the althetes who joined the tour included: canoeing gold medallist Tim Brabants, gymnasts Dan Purvis, Louis Smith and Beth Tweddle, althletic medallists Tashsa Danvers and Dai Greene, cycling's Sir Chris Hoy and Ross Edgar, paralympic cyclist Jody Cundy, Paralympic athletes David Roberts and Ian Jones, Taekwondo star Sarah Stevenson, diver Ben Swain, triathlon star Helen Jenkins, swimmers Rebecca Adlington, Thomas Haffield and Megan Sylvester, Paralympic swimmer Liz Johnson, and boxing medallists Gamal Yafai and Warren Baister.
